Dr. Goldman tells a personal story.

For a select group, storytelling is a performance art, much the same way that for a select few telling jokes is a profession. For the rest of us, however, storytelling is part of the way we communicate in our day-to-day lives and can be put to better effect. Like any other communication skill, the more we practice it, the better we become.

Because we grow up listening to fairytales and watching movies, the basic principles of storytelling are familiar to us. They can be taught and they can be learned – which is the goal in this storytelling workshop.

College Admission Essay Writing

This year it is more important than ever for students to be able to tell their stories. That’s because the first prompt of the Common Application Essay suggests, “Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.” This workshop is a great way to kickstart the college admission essay writing process.

Creative Thinking

Creativity is our human birthright. It is innate and within all of us. Storytelling helps us access our creativity because it integrates left brain and right brain thinking. This workshop shows you ways to expand your creative thinking in a safe environment so that you can generate new ideas. That can mean broadening your ideas, having more ideas, or going deeper into your current ideas so that you can create more possibilities in your life and in your work.
